INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

A new survey has been carried out by market research company NetValue looking at the proportion of over 55s on the Internet.

According to the survey the number of over 55s going online has doubled since the beginning of 2001 and the age bracket now accounts for 13% of the UK online population. Sweden and Denmark still have the largest proportions of over 55s online with 17% and 16.3% respectively.

The company has claimed that online banking is one of the biggest attractions to the age group and estimate that over a quarter of all UK e-bankers are aged 50 or above. Similarly, the group is four times more likely to visit a genealogy site than an average Internet surfer.
